The troglodyte home (casa cueva) where used by the first inhabitants of the Canary islands, the "Guanches" and is a magnificent example of adapting the popular architecture to the physical characteristics of the land, with no risk of collapsing, and it is waterproof. These houses let you enjoy a constant pleasant temperature of about 18º C, resulting cool in summer and warm in winter, a real luxury in a natural way. It is equipped with the comfort and amenities required by modern life, but decorated in a folklorist manner to preserve their traditional style, offer a type of accommodation which fulfils the requirements of today's tourism looking for peace, a rural atmosphere and ethnic authenticity, where the traveller can see and touch the implements of everyday life of the past and imagine the way of life of those times. There are numerous possibilities for outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing photography, etc... This cave dwelling can be found in Barranco Hondo, Gáldar, at an altitude of 1200 metres. Barranco Hondo has recently been declared an Area of Cultural Interest, especially interesting is "la Cueva Ermita", a small religious sanctuary.
